Forums: Index > Watercooler > Greetings from New Zealand

Hello, out there! I hope these forums can be useful. Wikia added this facility nearly a year ago, but it needs work to get it into wikis that existed then. I think I've done the essential work (actually copying from what I copied yesterday to the Africa wiki).

By coincidence, two recent contributors to this Wikia are in New Zealand at present. Dore chakravarty can tell you more about himself.

I have never been out of New Zealand. But I have several personal links to India:

  • My aunt Grace Marion Patterson (1899-1996), who spent nearly 40 years as a Christian teacher under the Church of Scotland in Darjeeling, Sikkim, and Nepal.
  • Her aunt Helen C (Nellie) MacGregor (c 1864-1936) was the first Presbyterian missionary to go from New Zealand to India.
  • A cousin of my mother's, Reginald Percival D'Oyly Snow, spent many years working with the Poona and Indian Village Mission.
  • My wife's great-uncle Percy Brown (1871-1955), art curator and writer at Calcutta. His obituary was in The Times (London), 26 April 1955.

My early acquaintance with things Indian was the involvement of my Church, the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, with Punjab.

Of course I have had several acquaintances and workmates who were born in India or whose parents were.

Best wishes to all contributors and readers.
