Of the People of India, around 80% of Indians are Hindus. India also is a home for many ethnic and social groups.

India is an ancient country, and covers from Kashmir in the North to Kanyakumari in the South, and from Kohima in the East to Kutch in the West.
India covers hardly 2.4% of the surface area of the globe.

India has the third largest population of Muslims in the world (about 13%) followed by Indonesia and Pakistan.
But it is the second most populous country (2007 estimated population: 1.2 billion) in the world, topped by only China.
Most of the people of India (around 30%) live in its 550,000 plus villages, while the remaining Indians live in more than 200 large towns and cities and many smaller towns.

Followers of all other major religions of the world also live in India - Zoroastrians (0.01%), Sikhs (1.93%) and Jains (0.40%). Other religious groups include Christians (2.3%), Buddhists (0.77%), Jews and Bahá'ís.
